Simon Cowell admits he was wrong to keep John and Edward in X Factor
After facing an unprecedented backlash from X Factor viewers Simon Cowell has reportedly admitted he was wrong to save John and Edward from the chop. Simon voted for the boys following their song for survival battle against Lucie Jones on Sunday night’s show.
Yesterday, Cowell said he thought they would get the boot in the public vote. Simon was reported as saying ‘I genuinely thought they’d be voted out.’ According to publicist Max Clifford Simon is thinking ‘he maybe got it wrong and misjudged it.’ His decision to save Jedward – X Factor twins John and Edward Grimes – shocked viewers as ever since their very first audition he has been their biggest critic.

Yesterday, Welsh beauty Lucie Jones said the boys told her they were feeling awful about being responsible for her being sent home from the show. She said: ‘John and Edward, bless them, they’re the nicest kids.’ They said, ‘We feel guilty’. – ‘More people wanted to see them next week than wanted to see me’. ‘They’re so happy and upbeat about everything and to see them upset because of me… I really felt for them.’
Thousands of angry and upset fans left messages on the X Factor website and all over the Internet deriding Cowell’s decision to save Jedward and threatening to boycott the show, saying its credibility had been wrecked. Somehow I think most of them will be back next week, if only to boo and jeer as this year’s X Factor has becoming compelling viewing. I for one, could take or leave most of the show, however if there is one performance I don’t want to miss, it’s John and Edward.
The TV watchdog Oftcom received complaints alleging that Sunday’s result was a fix. Oftcom say they are considering whether or not to investigate the issue. Over 16 million people watched the results show on Sunday night, an X Factor record.
John and Edward have attracted the majority of the publicity for this year’s X Factor and are mobbed by teenage fans wherever they are. However despite initial branding them ‘vile’ and saying he would leave on a ‘fast plane’ Simon Cowell has now done a U-turn on Jedward and stands accused of ignoring the talented contestants for the sake of viewing figures.
The boys should not feel too bad about winning the sing-off on Sunday, when all the hysteria surrounding Simon’s decision has calmed down, fans of the show must surely realise that John and Edward are still in and Lucie Jones is out because of one thing, and one thing only. Public votes. The person with the least votes leaves, pretty democratic really. Simon was put in a no win situation on Sunday and despite many X Factor critics saying he bottled it, all he did was let the public decide.

John and Edward Grimes
Evidently the public decided Jedward deserved to stay and that should be that. Perhaps one of their biggest fans Andy Murray can help John and Edward serve up a few more aces before the show is done. Andy wrote on his Twitter page ‘Come on John and Edward’ and admitted ‘I’m a Jedward fan – …two great performers and are making the show entertaining.’
