John and Edward X Factor Live Show 5 – Ghostbusters

Who you gonna call? Thousands, possibly millions, of kids and teenage girls will be answering this Ghostbusters themed question with the same answer this week. John and Edward. X Factor’s Jedward twins put on another no-holds-barred production for Movie Night.

Starting off in a car and with a cast of extras that looked like they might have come straight out of a Michael Jackson “Thriller” video, the boys once again, charged around the X Factor stage during Live Show 5 and opted for fun and frolics over tuneful melodies. While most of the other contestants opted for ballads and re-hashed golden oldies, John and Edward chose to stand out from the crowd with another all action, fast-paced performance.

Despite Simon’s protestations that the show is a singing competition and therefore has no place for John and Edward (I thought it was a search for someone with the X Factor and not just another voice), the pair have become the most talked about X Factor contestants since Leona Lewis.

The judges all seemed a little subdued this week and in the fashion battle between Cheryl Cole and Dannii Minogue there was no clear winner with Cheryl avoiding the faux-pas of last week’s dinner plate dress. The comments for John and Edward were much the same as ever, you’d think the X Factor script writers had run out of options to stick up on the autocue!

  • Dannii was a bit down on the boys this week, being unable to offer any criticism at all, constructive or otherwise. Although she did point out that the boys were either speaking or rapping in the last two X Factor songs they ‘sang’.
  • Cheryl said she enjoyed the performance and little else.
  • Simon after trashing Jedward’s vocal talents yet again, thought they had at least picked the right song. A complement of sorts perhaps although possibly another back-handed one. I think even Simon Cowell has run out of nasty things to say.
  • Louis was supportive of his one remaining act from this year’s show, and pointed out the simple fact that the whole country is talking about John and Edward and that they had the fun factor.

The most noticeable performance of the week aside from John and Edward belonged to Olly Murs who has been elevated to the favourite by all the bookmakers. Olly delivered an energetic performance of Twist and Shout, from Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. The Essex based heart throb pulled of another good X Factor performance and should be safe all the way through to the live final.

Danyl Johnson was sporting a new look and a new attitude, and it was my favourite performance of his to date. Singing Prince’s Purple Rain you might have thought he’d lapse back into his over produced arrogant self of the first few weeks but I think he might have learnt his lesson and realised that he is much more popular when he just sings the songs without too much of the showmanship. His new cropped hair style seemed to go down well with the ladies, even previous critic Cheryl Cole has some good things to say about Danyl this week.

Favourites for the chop this week will probably be Lloyd Daniels and Jamie Archer but I expect the twins will also be many people’s choice to leave X Factor 2009 for good. Let’s hope not.

Voting has now opening and we’ll have to wait another 24 hours to see if the Ghostbusters duo can slay the “Slime monster Simon” and go bustin all the way to the final.
