X Factor Jedward backlash after Lucie makes a tearful exit

- The Jedward backlash begins as Lucie Jones leaves X Factor 2009
The backlash in the newspapers and all over Twitter and Facebook has begun as Lucie Jones became the fifth act to be voted off The X Factor.
Lucie found herself in the bottom two alongside John and Edward and both Lucie and the boys had to perform again to win the judges saving votes. Jones was first to perform, and after a beautiful rendition of Whitney’s ‘One Moment In Time’ Jedward must have been fearing the worst. However their all action performance of the Robbie Williams number ‘Rock DJ’ was their best performance to date.
Down to the Judges votes then.
- Louis Walsh and Dannii Minogue predictably saved their own acts.
- Cheryl Cole said she had grown to respect the boys over the past few weeks but she decided to send them home and keep Lucie in.
- Simon Cowell was last to go and everyone must have thought John and Edward’s time was up. Surprising then that he said he’d probably rather see the boys again than Lucie and despite getting a lot of stick last week for taking it down to the public vote he decided to repeat the trick and let the public decide.
The decision went to deadlock and back to the public vote and it was Lucie Jones going home. Almost as soon as the words came out of his mouth the backlash again Jedward started with the audience beginning to boo and callers to the Xtra Factor saying it was a travesty that Simon had saved the boys.

Simon Cowell saved John and Edward but at what cost as Lucie Jones is voted out of the Factor
Last night the social networking sites across the internet were filled with angry Lucie fans calling for the decision to be reversed and saying Simon had bottled it. The drama will add further to all the conspiracy rumours that Cowell secretly loves John and Edward and has big things planned for them after the show. On onlooker said Simon Cowell had been seen locked in talks with Richard Holloway the executive producer during an ad break just before the sing-off. This will only add to the speculation that Simon already knew who had the lowest number of public votes before he decided to take the sing off to deadlock. Allegedly Simon was seen scratching his head and looking skyward as if agonising over his decision.
However, speaking on ITV2 show The Xtra Factor later, Simon said: “I wasn’t expecting that result. If I had to gamble I’d have gone the other way.” Last month he had said: “If they win, it will be a complete and utter disaster. I’ll probably sulk for about six months and get on a very fast plane out of the country.”
Perhaps everyone is forgetting that the show is not just a singing competition but a light entertainment show and alleges to look for an act with the X Factor and you cannot argue that John and Edward do at least have that. Time will tell whether the backlash which continued in the newsprint today will be a good or a bad thing as the boys face the public vote again next week. Perhaps fans of the boys shocked at their appearance in the bottom two and surely fearing the worst for their Jedward heroes will pick up the phones on mass next week. What ever happens I hope the boys do as they always have and continue to perform with a smile on their faces. Something some of the other contestants would do well to remember.
